My name is Monica Mason. I have been a highly qualified counsellor/psychotherapist since 2002. I practise psychodynamic psychotherapy and counselling in South Kensington, Chelsea west London. As an accredited BACP member I am committed to providing counselling and therapy in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.
I work with adult individuals providing ongoing weekly in-depth psychotherapy. I also provide counselling which tends to be more short term and last for an agreed time period only. My aim is to not only to support you but also to provide challenge and guidance in enabling you to live your life more fully.
My approach as a counsellor
My approach to counselling and psychotherapy is psychodynamic. Patterns of behaviour and relationships start forming early on in life. As we all have different experiences from childhood, the way we relate to difficulties and relationships varies from person to person depending on both past experiences and innate personality.
We all know how it feels wanting to change, finding it difficult and wondering why. This approach aims to provide more clarity and knowledge. By exploring both past and present, links can be made to increase your understanding of a particular problem and thereby easing the way to make changes. I will be guiding you through so that when you feel ready to make changes you will have the support of weekly counselling to fall back on. Therapy can also help you develop new ways of coping when you go through a difficult time in your life. I will provide you with support as well as challenge when appropriate. With increased self knowledge and awareness you are often in a better position to deal with things as you have more choices in how you react and act in a difficult situation.

I have a special interest in helping people of all nationalities who are new to London. To change country or sometimes even moving from one part of UK to another can be exciting and daunting at the same time. It can be a great support talking through things with a professional. Being Swedish and having lived here for over twenty years I have a vast experience in dealing with difficulties that can occur. Sometimes it might feel easier talking to someone in your own language, I am bilingual in swedish and english.
Struggles to understand and adjust to cultural differences, unfamiliar work culture or just feelings of loneliness and homesickness are some of the things that can be talked about in therapy. Whether you have come to London to work or study, living here permanently or for a limited time, it is easy to feel isolated at times. You might feel it can be a struggle making new friends as well as trying to adapt to different customs. Issues that you thought you left behind might sometimes re-emerge in your new location. Counselling can help you addressing those issues and show you a way forward.
