Do you feel that life is getting on top of you?
Do you feel anxious or sad but not sure why sometimes? Maybe you feel stuck in an old pattern, finding it difficult to change and wonder why?
Would you benefit from some time off to:
Explore your thoughts and feelings with a professional counsellor and psychotherapist so that you can get back on track again?
My name is Monica Mason. I have been a highly qualified counsellor/psychotherapist since 2002. I practise psychodynamic psychotherapy and counselling in South Kensington, Chelsea west London. As an registered and accredited BACP member I am committed to provide counselling and therapy in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.
I work with adult individuals providing ongoing weekly in-depth psychotherapy. I also practice weekly counselling which tends to be short term and last for an agreed time period only. I will support you, listen empathetically and provide guidance with the aim of enabling you to live your life more fully. We will move at a pace that feels right for you and I will provide you with appropriate challenge when you are ready to move forward.
My approach as a counsellor
My approach to counselling and psychotherapy is psychodynamic. As a psychodynamic therapist I believe that patterns of behaviour and relationships starts forming early on in life. As we all have different experiences from childhood, the way we relate to difficulties and to other people varies from person to person depending on both past experiences and innate personality.
Maybe you feel that something in your situation has to change. It can often feel difficult making those changes and you might wonder why that is. My approach aims to provide you with more clarity and knowledge. By exploring both past and present, links can be made between them to increase your understanding of a particular issue and thereby easing the way forward. I will be guiding you through so that when you feel ready to make changes you will have the support of weekly psychotherapy and counselling to fall back on. Sometimes inner change can be as important, if not more. You might not always be able to solve a particular problem. However, with inner growth and development your feelings can slowly start to change and you might relate to your situation differently from before. With increased self-knowledge and awareness you are often in a much better position to deal with things as you have more choices in how to react in difficult situations.
Therapy can help you develop new ways of coping when you go through a challenging time in your life. I will not tell you what to do, instead we will explore alternative ways of handling a situation and you will have my support in making your own choices.

I have a vast experience in helping people of all nationalities who are new to London. To change country or sometimes even moving from one part of UK to another can be exciting and daunting at the same time. It can be a great support talking through things with a professional. Sometimes it might feel easier talking to someone in your own language, I speak both swedish and english.
Struggles to understand and adjust to cultural differences, unfamiliar work culture or just feeling lonely and homesick are all things that can be talked about in therapy. Maybe you have lived here for some time or maybe you have just moved here. Whether you have come to London to work or study, living here permanently or for a limited time, it is easy to feel isolated, especially as London is a large city and rather transient in nature. You might struggle making new friends or finding it hard to pluck up the courage and try again when friends sometimes move away. Issues that you thought you left behind might sometimes re-emerge in your new location. Counselling can help you addressing those issues and show you a way forward.
